Postoperative serum biomarkers on day 3—including C-reactive protein, white blood cell count, and procalcitonin—effectively predict early surgical site infections in diabetic patients after lumbar spine fusion. A prediction model based on these markers demonstrated excellent accuracy in identifying high-risk patients among 1,680 cases, offering clinicians a valuable tool for targeted prevention strategies.
