Abstract Summary
Researchers developed a minimally invasive technique for accessing the equine cecum in standing horses using laparoscopy. Successfully performed in 6 of 7 horses, the method allowed safe, repeated fluid therapy over 22 days with minimal complications. This approach significantly reduces surgical trauma compared to traditional laparotomy, offering a practical solution for treating cecal impactions and dysbiosis.
Why Brain? ๐ง
New minimally invasive technique allows safe, long-term cecal access in standing horses, avoiding major surgery while enabling repeated treatments for impaction and gut disorders.
Study Limitations:
Small sample size with only seven horses included in the study
