Abstract Summary
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SIJD) affects 25% of patients after pelvic ring stabilization with screws, causing significant long-term pain and disability. This study of 80 patients found SIJD occurred exclusively after unilateral fixation, while bilateral fixation showed no cases. Younger patients faced higher risk. Findings suggest fixation strategy matters more than injury severity.
Why Brain? 🧠
Unilateral sacroiliac screw fixation for pelvic fractures increases risk of chronic joint dysfunction in younger patients, causing significant long-term pain and disability compared to bilateral fixation.
