Abstract Summary
Study reveals benzathine penicillin G may lose effectiveness sooner than expected. In 329 military recruits, protective blood levels dropped below therapeutic thresholds in under 2.5 weeksโmuch earlier than the assumed 3-4 week duration. These findings challenge current treatment protocols for streptococcal infections and warrant revised dosing guidelines.
Why Brain? ๐ง
Standard benzathine penicillin injections provide protective drug levels for less than 2.5 weeks, not the expected 3-4 weeks, potentially compromising strep infection treatment and prevention strategies.
