Abstract Summary
A deadly meningococcal outbreak in Spain (March-April 2024) killed two of four young adults infected with a novel serogroup B strain never seen before. The rare genosubtype couldn’t be assessed by standard molecular tools, requiring direct antibody testing to confirm vaccine coverage. Over 200 contacts received urgent prophylaxis with the 4CMenB vaccine, which proved effective against this strain.
