Abstract Summary
HIV prevalence dropped significantly in remote East Cameroon communities (6.9% to 2.7%) between 2012-2022, but remained unchanged in the South region at 4.5%. These areas are historically significant as the likely origin sites of HIV-1 cross-species transmission. The findings suggest urgent need to prioritize HIV control efforts in South Cameroon to meet UNAIDS targets.
