Abstract Summary
Natural health products (NHPs) are widely used by cardiovascular patients (78%), yet poorly documented by healthcare providers. In a study of 88 acute cardiovascular disease patients, structured interviews revealed daily NHP use in 75% of users, primarily vitamins/minerals and herbal products. Pharmacists documented NHP use in only 41% of cases, while physicians and nurses recorded even less (22% and 19% respectively).
Why Brain? ðŸ§
High natural health product use (78%) in acute cardiovascular patients often goes undocumented by healthcare providers, potentially missing important drug interactions and adverse effects.
