Abstract Summary
This pilot study of 44 hand osteoarthritis patients found no link between adipokine levels and x-ray severity of joint damage. However, leptin levels, BMI, and coronary artery disease were associated with chronic hand pain intensity. These findings suggest obesity may influence hand OA pain through metabolic factors rather than mechanical stress alone.
Why Brain? ðŸ§
Study finds adipokines don’t correlate with hand osteoarthritis severity on x-rays, but leptin levels and BMI are linked to pain intensity, suggesting obesity affects hand OA through pain pathways.
