Abstract Summary
PINCH1, a protein involved in cell adhesion, can unexpectedly move into the cell nucleus where it acts as a gene regulator. In kidney podocytes exposed to TGF-β1, PINCH1 translocates to the nucleus and interacts with WT1 transcription factor, suppressing podocalyxin expression—a key podocyte gene. This discovery reveals a novel nuclear function for PINCH1 beyond its known cytoplasmic roles.
Why Brain? 🧠
PINCH1 protein shuttles into podocyte nuclei after kidney injury, interacts with WT1 transcription factor, and suppresses podocalyxin expression—revealing a novel nuclear regulatory role beyond its known cytoplasmic functions.
