Abstract Summary
Annexin 7-deficient red blood cells show increased susceptibility to eryptosis (programmed cell death) and enhanced adhesion to blood vessel walls. When stressed by calcium influx, osmotic shock, or energy depletion, these cells display more phosphatidylserine exposure and stronger binding to endothelial cells than normal cells, potentially impairing microcirculation during ischemia.
