Abstract Summary
Benzimidazole drugs for cystic echinococcosis show limited effectiveness, with only 40-75% of cysts responding after 1-2 years depending on type and size. Critically, 25% of initially responsive cysts reactivate within 2 years, and relapse rates reach 60% after repeat treatments. This large study of 711 patients reveals benzimidazole efficacy has been overstated, highlighting the urgent need for controlled trials.
Why Brain? ðŸ§
Benzimidazole drugs for parasitic liver cysts show limited long-term success, with 40% of cysts remaining or becoming active after 2 years and frequent relapses, indicating need for better treatments.
