Abstract Summary

Antimicrobial resistance caused over 154,000 deaths across six East African Community nations in 2019, with a pooled mortality rate of 145 deaths per 100,000 population. This secondary analysis of GRAM data reveals a substantial and consistent AMR burden across Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated regional investment in surveillance and antibiotic stewardship programs.

Why Brain? ๐Ÿง

AMR caused ~155K deaths across 6 East African nations in 2019, with pooled rates of 144.69/100K. Consistent regional burden highlights urgent need for coordinated surveillance and stewardship.

Study Limitations:

Secondary pooled analysis of modelled country-level mortality estimates
Data limited to six East African Community countries
