Abstract Summary

Researchers found that intracellular Staphylococcus aureus is the primary cause of recurrent tonsillitis, hiding inside tonsillar cells where antibiotics can’t reach it. This explains why drug therapy often fails and surgery becomes necessary. In contrast, peritonsillar abscesses were mainly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The findings reveal why conservative treatment struggles with recurrent tonsillitis.

Why Brain? 🧠

Intracellular Staphylococcus aureus, hiding inside tonsillar cells to evade antibiotics and immunity, is the main cause of recurrent tonsillitis, explaining why drug therapy often fails.
