Abstract Summary

High folic acid intake without adequate vitamin B12 may harm pregnancy outcomes by lowering DHA levels in the placenta and altering DNA methylation patterns. However, omega-3 supplementation can reverse these effects, restoring healthy methylation levels. This finding is particularly relevant for vegetarian populations at risk of B12 deficiency.
