Abstract Summary
New genetic research reveals anorexia nervosa may causally increase the risk of acute gastritis and Crohn’s disease. Using Mendelian randomization analysis of genetic data, researchers found these associations persisted even after accounting for smoking and alcohol use. While gastric cancer initially showed links to AN, this disappeared after adjustment, suggesting confounding factors at play.
Why Brain? ๐ง
Study reveals anorexia nervosa may causally increase risk of acute gastritis and Crohn’s disease, independent of smoking and drinking, suggesting shared genetic mechanisms warrant further investigation.
