Abstract Summary

Study reveals 42% of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in Brazil have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most common liver complication. Among 138 IBD patients screened by ultrasound, liver abnormalities correlated with elevated liver enzymes and metabolic markers. Researchers recommend routine liver screening in IBD patients for early intervention to prevent cirrhosis.

Why Brain? ๐Ÿง

IBD patients show high prevalence of liver disease, particularly NAFLD (42%), highlighting need for routine liver screening to prevent progression to cirrhosis and enable early intervention.
