Abstract Summary

In a study of 30 liver abscess patients in India (96% amoebic), no single factor predicted need for early aspiration. However, patients with multiple risk factorsโ€”age โ‰ฅ55 years, abscess โ‰ฅ5cm, and bilateral involvementโ€”showed a trend toward requiring earlier intervention (60% vs 25%). While limited by sample size, findings suggest a combined-risk model may better identify candidates for early aspiration than individual predictors alone.

Why Brain? ๐Ÿง

Study identifies combined clinical factors (age โ‰ฅ55, abscess โ‰ฅ5cm, bilateral involvement) that may predict need for early aspiration in liver abscesses, potentially improving treatment decisions.
