Abstract Summary
Study reveals over half of endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF) patients have antibodies against heart muscle proteins, suggesting an autoimmune component to this poorly understood tropical heart disease. Researchers found IgG antibodies targeting specific myocardial proteins in 54% of EMF patients versus 10% of controls, with antibody levels correlating to disease severity. These findings could lead to better diagnosis and identify patients who might benefit from immunosuppressive treatment.

Study finds anti-myosin antibodies in 54% of endomyocardial fibrosis patients versus 10% of controls, suggesting autoimmune mechanism and potential for immunosuppressive treatment in this tropical heart disease.
