Abstract Summary

Statins may do more than lower cholesterolโ€”they could help repair damaged hearts. Research in pigs shows pravastatin more than doubles late outgrowth endothelial progenitor cells and increases capillary density by 46% in chronically ischemic heart tissue, potentially improving blood flow and heart function in coronary artery disease patients.

Why Brain? ๐Ÿง

Statins boost growth of blood vessel-forming cells and increase capillary density in chronically ischemic heart tissue by 46%, offering a potential mechanism to improve heart function beyond cholesterol lowering.
