Abstract Summary
Statins may do more than lower cholesterol—they could help repair damaged hearts. Research in pigs shows pravastatin more than doubles late outgrowth endothelial progenitor cells and increases capillary density by 46% in chronically ischemic heart tissue, potentially improving blood flow and heart function in coronary artery disease patients.
Why Brain? ðŸ§
Statins boost growth of blood vessel-forming cells and increase capillary density in chronically ischemic heart tissue by 46%, offering a potential mechanism to improve heart function beyond cholesterol lowering.
