Abstract Summary

Waist circumference predicts future healthcare costs better than BMI alone. Danish study of 31,840 adults found that increased abdominal fat raises costs regardless of BMI, while higher BMI showed minimal protective effect only in non-obese women with normal waist size. For cost prediction, waist measurement outperforms combined metrics.
