Researchers discovered that meprinβ, a metalloendopeptidase enzyme, is expressed in kidney glomerular podocytes and may play a role in glomerular disease. The enzyme’s expression pattern changed in two experimental nephritis models, and it was identified as a potential autoantigen in Heymann nephritis. These findings suggest meprinβ could be involved in kidney disease mechanisms.
