Abstract Summary
New research reveals that treadmill exercise boosts NT-4 production in the brain after stroke. In rat models, ischemic injury decreased NT-4 and its receptor trkB, but prior exercise “primed” the brain to produce more NT-4 following injury. This neuroprotective factor, similar to BDNF, may help explain how physical activity enhances recovery after cerebral ischemia.
Why Brain? ðŸ§
Treadmill exercise boosts neurotrophin-4 levels in rat brains after stroke, suggesting physical activity may prime neuroprotective responses and enhance recovery from ischemic brain injury.
