Researchers found that chondroitin sulfate A (CS-A), exposed on activated platelet surfaces, binds complement proteins C1q, C4BP, and factor H. CS-A-bound C1q amplifies immune complex binding to platelets, suggesting CS-A plays a role in immune complex diseases and adds a new binding mechanism for complement regulation on platelets.
