Abstract Summary
Researchers discovered that two different ion channel proteins, TRPML3 and TRPV5, can combine to form a novel hybrid channel with unique properties. This heteromeric channel activates under different conditions than either parent channel and shows distinct electrical characteristics. Since both proteins are found in kidneys and inner ears, this finding could reveal new mechanisms underlying hearing and kidney function.
Why Brain? ðŸ§
TRPML3 and TRPV5 ion channels form novel heteromeric channels with unique properties, potentially expanding TRP channel diversity and function in kidney and inner ear tissues.
