Abstract Summary

Italian researchers developed a clinical prediction tool to identify cancer patients with blood infections at highest risk of death. The 5-factor scoring system considers kidney failure, severe low white blood cell count, hospital-acquired infection, age ≥65, and multiple health conditions. Validated across 9 hospitals, the tool showed excellent accuracy in predicting 30-day mortality, potentially enabling earlier intensive treatment decisions.

Why Brain? 🧠

Researchers developed a 5-point scoring system to predict death risk in blood cancer patients with bacterial bloodstream infections, achieving 90%+ accuracy in validation studies.
